Understanding Parkinson’s Disease: A Quick Overview

With over 10 million people living with Parkinson's Disease worldwide, addressing this condition is crucial for our aging population. This section provides an introduction to the pathogenesis of Parkinson's Disease, explaining its causes and progression.

What Causes Parkinson's Disease?

Parkinson's Disease primarily results from the deficiency of two key neurotransmitters in the brain: dopamine and norepinephrine. Dopamine is essential for movement control, while norepinephrine affects muscle contraction. As people age, neurons in the brain gradually degenerate, leading to deficiencies of these chemicals. However, this process is significantly accelerated in individuals with Parkinson's Disease. Symptoms begin to manifest when approximately 50-60% of these neurons are lost.
